A skilled trades training program hailed by state Senator John Proos will be permanent in Michigan now that the governor has signed legislation Proos co-sponsored. Proos tells WSJM News the Going Pro Talent Program awards grants to employers so they can train their workers.

“Really, Going Pro is about making sure that we have folks ready to be professionals and managing the real big challenges that we have in having the right number of people to fill all of those jobs necessary to keep the economic growth and vitality in the state of Michigan moving forward in the state that it has been in the years past,” Proos said.

Proos says since 2014, the Going Pro Talent Program has provided $72.9 million in grants to more than 2,000 Michigan companies for training and apprenticeships. Kinexus says through Going Pro, it in the past year helped 37 companies receive $1.3 million in awards of one-time training dollars for more than 1,000 workers. Proos tells us Going Pro is good for both workers and employers.
