A new contract is in place for employees of the Berrien County Road Department.
On Thursday, the Berrien County Board of Commissioners approved a three-year contract with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324. The Berrien County Road Department tells us this was the first contract the county has worked out with road workers since taking road operations over last year.
“It was a good negotiation, we were happy to work with staff, and I think we came up with a great plan,” said Berrien County Road Department Director Jason Lathum.
Lathum says the employees will get a 2% pay increase for the first two years of the contract, and then 2.5% in the third year. He says the negotiations went well. The union has already approved the contract. The old one expired August 31.
