A violent early-morning home invasion has landed a 32-year-old Dowagiac man in the Cass County Jail. He’s accused of breaking into the home of a woman he knows just after 5 a.m. Thursday while drunk, getting loud and disruptive, and choking her after she ordered him to leave. He then kicked in the door after standing outside the house in the 200 block of Dewey Street and yelling, at which point her dogs attacked him. When police arrived, he was on the front porch and they took him to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment of the dog bites before hauling him off to jail. On that drive, he tried getting out of the handcuffs and was restrained by the officers. The man is facing several charges, and his name is being withheld until he’s arraigned. The 27-year-old victim suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
