Call For Blood Donations

The Red Cross is once again putting out a call for blood donations due to a summer shortage. The Red Cross says more than 550 fewer blood drives were organized by businesses and other community groups during the week of Independence Day. Spokesperson Todd Kulman tells WSJM News they do need a lot of blood each day.

“We need more donations to help meet patient needs and replenish that blood supply,” Kulman said. “The Red Cross needs about 14,000 blood donations each day nationwide for the patients at our hospitals, and here in Michigan that’s been about 1,000 and 1,200 donations each day.”

The Red Cross has put out an urgent call for eligible donors of all blood types — especially type O — to give now to solve this blood emergency. They’ve scheduled several blood drives throughout July. You can see the schedule below. You can also call 1-800-REDCROSS or get the Red Cross blood app.
