Legislation To Lower Voting Age

State Senator David Knezek, a Democrat from Dearborn Heights, wants to lower Michigan’s voting age to 16. He spoke with Michigan News Network about the idea.

“Compromise is not a four-letter word here in my view of the political system, and so if we’re taking steps to increase the number of people who can vote here in the state of Michigan and across the country, that is something I am absolutely open to,” Knezek said.

A similar bill has been introduced in the Michigan House. The legislation is meant to embolden the increasing number of young people who are actively and aggressively participating in the political process.
