Cass County Flood Damage Being Assessed

Cass County Emergency Management is assessing the damage after weekend flooding to send to the state to determine if it will be declared a disaster area. Captain Tom Jacobs with the sheriff’s office says several homes along Davis Lake were damaged and seven roads remain closed. As for what caused the flooding, Jacobs had this to say.

“We’ve had a substantial buildup of water throughout the spring because of ice buildup underneath the ground over spring thaw, and a lot of the area is saturated and is not draining properly,” Jacobs said, adding it is causing a lot of flooding issues with the rain that has fallen in the past week. He adds if the damage is severe enough for the county to be declared a disaster area by Governor Snyder, it would make residents and businesses eligible for low-interest loans.
