The Michigan Department of Treasury is reminding all state residents of the Earned Income Tax Credit. Spokesperson Ron Leix tells WSJM News the federal earned income tax credit can help families to the tune of thousands of dollars each year. A tax filer can also get a partial state match.

“Working families and individuals with low to moderate income who receive a federal Earned Income Tax Credit can receive a 6% matching Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit when they file their state income tax,” Keix said.

During the 2016 tax year, more than 770,000 claimants received the Michigan EITC, totaling nearly $114 million with an average credit amount of $148. Anyone who wants to find out more can go to the IRS website. You can find it right here.
