Road Commissions Work To Fix New Potholes

Road commissions around Michigan are dealing with a fresh round of potholes. Van Buren County Road Commission Engineer Manager Larry Hummel tells WSJM News when the snow melts, like it did this past week, his crews can always expect to find new things to be patched.

“It freezes from the top down, and it also thaws from the top down,” Hummel said. “So, usually that pothole problem that we get in those road conditions, it’s kind of like when we’re in the spring thaw conditions and we put out our road restrictions around Michigan. It’s the same kind of thing when we get up to these temperatures where it stays above freezing for a couple days.”

Hummel asks drivers to give road crews a break as they try to patch potholes while keeping the right of way clear of snow.
