Berrien RESA and the Cook nuclear power plant near Bridgman are teaming up next week to teach local kids about nuclear power. The plant’s Irene Weaver tells WSJM News they’re holding an art contest, asking kids to make posters about what nuclear power means to them. There’s a reason for it.

“A lot of the local kids know somebody that works at the power plant,” Weaver said. “Either a relative or someone they know’s relative. It’s right here in our backyard.”

Weaver tells us the plant and RESA are hooking teachers up with educational materials about nuclear power. RESA will collect the entries and then Cook staff will pick winners in four categories. Those winners will get gift cards.
