John’s guest for the week of May 21 is Robert Mueller, the longest serving Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation save for J. Edgar Hoover. Mueller served for over 12 years, during the Administrations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. While the statutory term in office for this position is 10 years, President Obama and the Congress decided to extend his term due to Mueller’s successful leadership. Mueller details his own background as a Marine in Vietnam, a young lawyer, Assistant United States Attorney, United States Attorney and Director. He outlines the challenges and roles of the FBI in detail. His insights on how the FBI should work will help us better understand the way forward for the nation’s preeminent law enforcement agency, as well as the Department of Justice within which it functions.
