The Michigan State Police post in Niles has been able to collect more than 45 pounds of unused prescription medications, thanks to a drug takeback day held this past weekend. On Saturday, MSP posts all over Michigan served as drop-off points for unused medications as the agency worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency on the effort. Police say it’s better to drop off unneeded drugs with them so the drugs can be destroyed. Just leaving them in medicine cabinets or flushing them could mean they wind up in the wrong hands or in the water supply. A total of 47.8 pounds of drugs were left with the MSP in Niles Saturday. Statewide, nearly 1,200 pounds of drugs were collected.
