Berrien Tire Recycling Event Next Week

Coming up next week will be a chance for everyone to get rid of old tires that might be cluttering their garage. Berrien County will hold a tire recycling event at the road commission office in Benton Township. Jill Adams, Environmental Property Manager for the county, says it’s a good idea to make sure you don’t have old tires taking up space on your property.

“We don’t want tires sitting outside,” Adams told WSJM. “Tires that sit outside, they gather water and then become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. It’s really just an eyesore to have tires sitting around.”

On Thursday, May 12, you can drop off old tires between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Friday, May 13, you can drop them off between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the road commission office. There will be a recycling free of $1 per passenger tire, $2 for tires on a rim, $5 for semi-truck tires, and $10 for oversize or loader tires.
