Michigan Municipal League Calls For State Investment In Local Sewer Systems

Water and sewer systems in many Michigan cities are old and continue to deteriorate, and the Michigan Municipal League is trying to raise attention to the need to invest. Chris Hackbarth, Executive Director of the MML, says the resources need to be available to keep city water supplies clean and keep waste systems operating properly.

“That’s infrastructure that needs to be continually invested in and maintained,” Hackbarth said. “When you look at a community’s ability to make those investments, the resources and the ability to handle that need to be there.”

He says they plan to talk to legislators and the Snyder administration in 2016 about how the systems can be maintained and how the maintenance can be better maintained.
