State Representative Al Pscholka says that the state does need to kick in some money to help the city of Flint reconnect its water system to Detroit’s. Governor Rick Snyder on Thursday asked lawmakers to set aside about six million dollars for that purpose, while other sources are contributing the rest of the cost. Pscholka says that the lead present in Flint’s water represents a public health crisis, and it’s incumbent on the state to do something.

Flint used to get its water from Detroit, but has recently been pumping it out of the Flint River while working on a pipeline to get it from Lake Huron. Pscholka, Chair of the State House Appropriations Committee, says that he thinks lawmakers can pull the funds together to help out.
