A South Haven man is facing charges in a rape case. 45 year-old Jose Luis Garcia-Garcia appeared before a Van Buren County judge on Thursday for arraignment on counts of first and second degree criminal sexual conduct. Prosecutors say that Garcia fondled a young girl in December of last year. They say that the elementary-aged victim was the daughter of a friend of Garcia's, and the incident was reported to police by her. According to the court, the mother alleges that she was watching TV with Garcia and the girl one night when the mother fell asleep and he abused the girl. Garcia turned himself in this week, and his bond was set at 45-thousand dollars. He has no other convictions on his record.
