Some local students will get a chance to speak with others in Haiti, thanks to Berrien RESA and videoconferencing technology. On March 22nd, kids at Saint Joseph High School will learn more about what it's like in the earthquake ravaged country from those who actually live there. RESA Technology Consultant Janine Lim tells us that an organization called the Global Nomads Group is helping to set up the meeting:
Lim says that this month's sessions will help local kids expand their horizons:
This isn't the first time Global Nomads has set up a videoconference meeting between local students and someone overseas:
Lim says that the groups has previously set up videoconferencing sessions with students in Rwanda and Sudan. Locals students will also use the day as an opportunity to start a fundraising effort.
The event is being coordinated by Berrien Regional Education Service Agency and the Global Nomads Group as part of Students Rebuild, an initiative in partnership with the Bezos Family Foundation and Architecture for Humanity. You can find out more at www.studentsrebuild.org, or www.gng.org .
