Upton and Cox Talk Asian Carp

Local residents gathered at the Saint Joseph Public Library Thursday to learn more about the Asian Carp. Attorney General Mike Cox joined Congressman Fred Upton say the fish threatens commercial and recreational use of the Great Lakes. Upton says not stopping the carp could cost Michigan greatly.

Upton says the carp can also be dangerous to swimmers and boaters.

Cox says he'll file briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court Friday to try and force the federal government to keep the carp out of the Great Lakes. Both Cox and Upton are calling for the Chicago shipping locks to be closed to stop the carp from getting into Lake Michigan. Crews are currently searching for carp in open Illinois waters and Chicago Rivers. So far, scientists have only found DNA evidence beyond the barrier.
