The Michigan State Police posts in Bridgman and Niles are getting some of their troopers back. Earlier this year, the state laid off 100 troopers because of its budget problems, but a way was recently found to bring some of them back with federal stimulus dollars. Lieutenant Willie Mays, with the state police in Bridgman, says that next month, the post will get back the one trooper it lost in June. He says everyone there is pleased to hear the news:

Right now, the Bridgman State Police post has 21 troopers, and the one being restored -- Anthony Shackelford -- resumes his duties on January 19th. The Niles post is also getting two troopers back. Statewide, 28 troopers are being reinstated next month, while ten out of the original 100 cut in June remain laid off.
