Watervliet's Mayor turned in a letter of resignation this week. Prince turned in the letter on Monday. City Manager Troy Clay says Prince said in his resignation letter the decision was because of changes in his job.
Clay says he wasn't surprised by the resignation.
Prince's resignation is effective immediately. Prince is currently in New Jersey and WSJM couldn't reach him for comment. But, Prince told the Tri-City Record the decision had nothing to do with Watervliet resident David Flaherty's accusations of fraud and misrepresentation. Flaherty took his cast to court last month to the Berrien County Prosecutor's office. But, it found no criminal wrongdoing. Clay says he hates to see Prince go, but he says the city will continue to move forward.
Clay says the City Commission is having a special meeting Monday to talk about the resignation. The City's Charter says that the city commission can appoint someone to fill the seat, until a successor is elected.
