With the official start of winter only weeks away, Benton Harbor's homeless shelter is already nearing capacity. Salvation Army Men's Shelter Director Danny Gray says the economy is forcing people into homelessness all year long.
Gray says the shelter only has room for 32 men. He says he tries to find the men other places to stay in the community, but there's often little he can do once the shelter is full.
The Benton Harbor shelter is the only men's shelter in three counties. There is also the Safe Shelter on Pipestone Road in Benton Township. That shelter is for women, children and families.
