A woman and her four year-old son have died as a result of a fire on Monday in Allegan County. The Lee Township Fire Department responded to the blaze at a home in the 900 block of 54th Street shortly before noon to find the structure fully engulfed. 25 year-old Christie Everett had been badly burned trying to get her two children out -- a two year-old girl, and a four year-old boy. The girl was unharmed, but firefighters found the boy's body inside the home. His mother was airlifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, but died on Tuesday. The father of the children wasn't at home at the time. The Pullman VFW post, where Christie Everett worked, is now taking donations to help her family. Officials believe that a candle caused the blaze, but an investigation by a state fire marshall is ongoing. Lee Township is just north of the Van Buren-Allegan County line.
