Police Investigate Burned Body Found Near South Haven

Authorities in Allegan County were to conduct an autopsy Monday on a badly-burned body that was found near South Haven over the weekend. On Saturday, the body was discovered in the 400 block of 74th Street, a little north of South Haven in Casco Township. South Haven Police initially responded to the scene, but the investigation was soon turned over to the Allegan County Sheriffs Department, which told a Grand Rapids TV station that interviews were being conducted with neighbors. As of Monday afternoon, they said they hadn't received any information to suggest the death was anything more than an accident. The body was found not far from the scorched shell of a car that had apparently burned itself out. A state fire marshal was also investigating, and anyone with information was asked to contact the Allegan County Sheriffs Department.
