Sen Stabenow Talks Health Care Bill




One Michigan Senator is weighing in on the national health care debate. Senator Debbie Stabenow says she's glad the House passed a bill that moves the process forward. But she says as a member of the Senate Finance Committee, she prefers its healthcare bill.

The House bills is paid for with a tax surcharge on wealthy Americans and spending constraints on Medicare and Medicaid, while the Finance Committee has come up a new tax on more expensive health policies. The House also approved a public option that the Finance Committee didn't include.President Barak Obama has called on the Senate to get a bill on his desk before the first of the year; Stabenow says that's not where her focus is.

Stabenow says she thinks the House's healthcare bill faces an uphill battle. Stabenow says the most important thing is that the Senate gets the bill right, no matter how long it takes.
