The Berrien County Health Department says that the city of Benton Harbor has made progress recently in its efforts to provide residents with more opportunities for physical activity in their daily routines. According to a press release, Benton Harbor is among 34 Michigan communities participating in the Promoting Active Communities -- or PAC -- program to ensure that citizens have access to safe and convenient ways of staying active. The health department recently used the PAC assessment tool to develop a baseline for the level of potential for activity in Benton Harbor, which looked at how the city, schools and employers promote active lifestyles...and based off that evaluation, the city scored a Bronze Level -- indicating a good start, but with much room for improvement. In December, Benton Harbor will be awarded a Bronze Level Award to recognize its promising PAC assessment. The Berrien County Health Department says that it's been partnering with several agencies in the city to create more opportunities for active living for about the past year. It's worked in collaboration with We Can! Healthy Berrien.
