Congressman Fred Upton this week announced one million dollars in federal funding for Western Michigan University's green engineering program. The money comes as part of an energy and water appropriations bill already passed by the House and Senate, and expected to be signed by the president sometime soon. Upton was at WMU's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Kalamazoo on Monday speak about the funding, which he said will support collaboration between the university and private industry to enhance workforce development. He said it will also lead to the creation of more environmentally-friendly methods of manufacturing.
