Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox on Thursday announced criminal charges against six individuals accused of financially exploiting senior citizens. The charges are a result of Project SCAMS -- Stop Crimes Against Michigan Seniors -- which is designed to protect nursing home residents from various forms of fraud. The AG office's Nick De Leeuw says that it's often too easy for a senior in an extended care facility to be ripped off:

Among the six people charged this week was a woman from Stevensville. De Leeuw says that Susan Mary Kubsch is accused of stealing Social Security money from a former resident of Orchard Grove Extended Care Center in Benton Harbor. She's charged with Embezzlement from a Vulnerable Adult, between one-thousand and 20-thousand dollars, and could get up to five years in prison.
