Granholm Appoints Locals

Governor Jennifer Granholm wants two Twin City area residents to serve on state committees. Granholm reappointed Saint Joseph's Lisa Peeples-Hurst to the Civil Rights Commission to represent Democrats as the commission investigates alleged discrimination. Peeples-Hurst is currently a prevention specialist for the Berrien County Health Department and Secretary of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. She says since she's joined the commission, it has been working to address civil rights issues on a local level. And she says she hopes to continue those efforts.

Granholm also named Benton Harbor resident Timothy James to the Committee on Juvenile Justice. James is a graduate of the State Police Michigan Youth Leadership Academy and will represent people under the age of 24 who used to be under the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system. Both appointments still need to be approved by the Michigan Senate.
