Cornerstone Alliance will help one local city pay back a loan from the Michigan Department of Transportation. Benton Harbor is taking a $200,000 loan from MDOT to makeup for overrun costs from the "Territorial Arts District Project." City Commissioners passed a resolution in 2006 saying there would be no cost to the city, but Benton Harbor City Manager says paying back some of the overruns is the city's responsibility.
Marsh says the city is responsible water and sewer line improvements and will pay back about $53,000 of the loan. Cornerstone Alliance has committed to paying back the majority of the loan at $20,000 a year. The total overrun cost was over $270,000. Marsh says moving up the Main Street Business Loop I-94 project also created additional design costs.
