Saint Joseph Tax Tea Party At Noon Saturday

Independence Day will be marked with a political message this weekend at an anti-tax "tea party" planned in Saint Joseph. Paul Peterson, Chairman of the Southwest Michigan Tea Party Patriots of Berrien County, says he wants to send a message that many are not impressed with the government's current spending and other practices, and so several activities are planned for the tea party on the Berrien County Courthouse steps and parking lot Saturday. There will be discussions of constitutional history, and speeches from various advocates for smaller government:

Peterson says there will be complimentary hot dogs, music, and possibly discussions on the Fair Tax. Local officials -- like State Representatives John Proos, Tonya Schuitmaker, and Sharon Tyler, as well as Congressman Fred Upton -- were all invited, but had other commitments. There will be other tea party demonstrations around the state on the Fourth. The closest ones will be in Niles, Grand Rapids, and Kalamazoo. The Saint Joseph tea party starts at noon.
