Task Force Talks Jobs in Southwest Michigan




A hearing on Michigan's job climate hosted tourism and agriculture experts in Benton Harbor Thursday. The Strategic Task Force on Jobs traveled across the state to learn how to create jobs in Michigan and during the final stop at the MSU-Extension, state representatives heard testimony from Travel Michigan Vice President George Zimmermann. Zimmermann says Pure Michigan needs $30 million from Lansing to continue this year's national advertising campaign. He says advertising funding and tourism job creation go hand in hand.

State Representative and Task Force Chairman John Proos says deciding to fund Pure Michigan another year is a matter of priority setting.

But Proos says more funding wasn't the only suggested job-creating solution.

Both Berrien County Farm Bureau President Ed Kretchman and MSU Extension Center's Dr. Thomas Zabadal also called for regulation reform during their testimony. Both say farmers need regulation reform to make it easier for them to do business. Proos was joined by State Representatives Sharon Tyler and Tonya Schuitmaker, along with other members of the task force.
