Harbor Shores Oversight Panel Approves Green Fees

A new committee set up in Benton Harbor to oversee operations of the Harbor Shores golf course met for the first time on Monday, and approved the facility's proposed green fees. On most days, it will be 75 dollars to play the nine holes open for the preview season starting July 15th...and for another 25 dollars, players can go a second round for the full 18-holes experience. There will also be several "Berrien County Community Days" held with 40 dollar green fees. Some members of the audience at Monday's meeting questioned why it won't be cheaper for Benton Harbor city residents to play the golf course...but Mayor Wilce Cooke said that issue will have to be addressed later:

The panel -- made up of four city-appointed members, and one from Harbor Shores -- was also told that of 26 full-time employees currently at Harbor Shores, 14 are city residents. Harbor Shores estimates that it will make about 215-thousand dollars in its first year, with expenses of over 900-thousand...but the development's business model anticipates the profit situation to begin turning around in the second or third year. The Golf Course Oversight Panel will meet again in March to review next year's fees.
