Detroit To Chicago High Speed Rail Still A Possibility




From Detroit to Chicago in four hours? It's not impossible if the federal government okays funding for a high speed rail between the two cities. Michigan Department of Transportation Administrator Tim Hoeffner says MDOT has all the necessary paperwork. He says it is just waiting to find out if its application for $400 million in American Recovery Act funds will be approved. Hoeffner says the rail will make Southwest Michigan a more desirable place to live.

Hoeffner says the rail will run through existing Amtrak stations. He says he expects to hear back from the federal government in October or November. If approved, he says it would get to work right away on the project.
