Berrien County's Nurse Family Partnership program is doing everything and anything to stay open longer than the end of September. Governor Jennifer Granholm's executive order eliminated funding for the program, but some federal matching dollars will keep it going until the end of the fiscal year. Program Supervisor Cheryl Bury says the Health Department is actively advocating the program to the Governor and even citing Benton Harbor in the process.
Bury says the program is also seeking out additional funding from donors from United Way of Southwestern Michigan and the Upton Foundation. The program helps first-time mothers have healthy babies and raise productive children.
