Over 500 new jobs are coming to Southwest Michigan. Governor Jennifer Granholm announced yesterday 1,800 jobs will be created statewide with help from more than $3.1 million in state Transportation Economic Development Fund grants in Berrien, Van Buren and six other Michigan counties. The transportation funds will support private investment in the state with road improvements. Michigan Department of Transportation Spokesperson Nick Schrippa says MDOT is excited to play a role in jump starting the state's economy.
333 new jobs will come to Berrien County as R Develop Group, LLC builds a water park, conference center and hotel in New Buffalo Township and MDOT expands US-12 to make up for increased traffic. And, 215 jobs will be created as Honee Bear Canning and Lawton Processing, LLC expand their facilities. MDOT will construct new right-turn lanes on M-40 at both facilities.
