SWM Organization Receives Honor For Reading Program

An organization that provides health services to school children in Southwest Michigan was honored last week in Lansing for its efforts to promote reading habits. Representatives of Intercare Community Health Network were presented with the Star Power Award at a ceremony on the capitol lawn by State Representative John Proos:

Proos says that the honor was for Intercare's Reach Out and Read program, which gives free books to kids getting services at the company's pediatrics offices in Benton Harbor, Bangor, and Eau Claire, among other places. The Star Power Award is sponsored by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation and Great Start to recognize organizations that help "young learners become ready, willing and able to learn when they start kindergarten". Three of the awards were presented this year.
