Jury selection began Tuesday in the trial of a man accused in the murders of a Van Buren County couple more than six years ago. 42 year old Robert Spangler is charged with two counts each of first degree and felony murder for the deaths of 57 year old Roberta and 66 year old Carlin Noble. Their bodies were found in the burned-out shell of their Lawton home in August of 2002. Autopsies revealed they had been beaten to death before their home was set on fire following a robbery. Spangler was already in a Muskegon prison on unrelated charges when investigators linked him to the case. Michelle Gogins, of Paw Paw, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in October 2005, and is serving a life sentence.
