Tuesday Election Results

Voters in Lincoln Township approved the rezoning of some property along Red Arrow Highway to allow for the development of a new condominium and commercial complex Tuesday night. Opponents of the Lakeside Beach Club project managed to get the planning commission's approval of the rezoning on to the ballot...but by a margin of 1437 to 1214, voters reaffirmed the commission's decision. Voters in other Southwest Michigan communities seemed to be in a Yes mood Tuesday, as well, as most of the key ballot requests passed. Benton Township's police and fire millages were both approved, as did Berrien Springs Oranoko-Township's police millage...all of the school district operating millage renewals in Berrien County passed...and Van Buren County's 911 emergency dispatch phone surcharge was also approved. Several school board elections were also held. Locally, Tammy Patrick and Dean Ray Junior beat out Bill Shalk for a spot on the Saint Joseph Board of Education...and in Benton Harbor, newcomers Martha Momany and Sharon Tripplett James were both elected to the school board.
