Benton Charter and Berrien Springs-Oronoko Townships have police or fire millage proposals on the ballot next week. Benton Charter Township police and fire departments are asking for a ten-year .42 mill renewal. Township Police Chief Vince Fetke says even though the department operates with a $300,000 deficit each year, he's not asking for a millage increase because residents are feeling the pinch too. He says the department has looked at other ways to cut back.
Meanwhile in Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township, voters are being asked to renew a millage, as well.
