Berrien County commissioners this week accepted a grant from the state to remove two dams on the Paw Paw River in Watervliet. Community Development Director Dan Fette says that the DNR grant of about 56-thousand dollars puts the country a little closer to its goal of collecting about 500-thousand to take out the structures:
The dams were built about 100 years ago to provide electrical power to the nearby paper mill. The county is aiming for spring of 2010 to actually remove them.
