A Mattawan woman was seriously injured in a two-car accident in Van Buren County on Friday morning, Sheriffs deputies say that they were dispatched to the head-on crash in the 27-thousand block of Red Arrow Highway in Antwerp Township around eight AM. 20 year-old Marco Ayala-Vazquez, of Lawton, told them he'd lost control on the slippery road while eastbound, causing his car to cross the center line and strike head-on a westbound Jeep driven by 47 year-old Frances Korteway, of Mattawan. Korteway was found in serious pain, and due to the damage to her car, Mattawan Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to free her. Korteway was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of non-life threatenting injuries.
