The Benton Harbor School district may be closing Fairplain North East Elementary. Board of Education Trustee Anthony Henry says the move is partly because of decreases in enrollment.
The district currently has a $7 million budget deficit. Superintendent Carol Schmidt met with the school's staff on Wednesday to talk about the possible closing. A Public hearing on the issue is scheduled for Monday night at the Benton Harbor High School cafeteria. The distrcit's school board will vote on the decision Tuesday.
