Berrien County Commissioners on Thursday voted to name David Pagel the board's new chairman. Pagel, from Berrien Springs, edged out Jeanette Leahey for the post. Pagel was elected to the Commission in November. The 54 year-old Republican had previously served on the Berrien Springs School Board. According to the Herald Palladium, it's unusual for a first-term commissioner to be named Chairman. Elected to the Vice Chair was Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough, of Benton Harbor.
