In light of current economic conditions, it's become even more important to try to save a little money during the holidays. However, that doesn't mean it's necessary to cancel Christmas parties altogether. Kymberli Flanagan, with the Western Michigan University Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, says you can easily save on the food. She says that even something as simple as chili can be a good, low-cost alternative to a more traditional holiday meal:
