AEP: Cook Unit One Could Be Back On Line Next Year

American Electric Power continues work to repair the Cook Nuclear Power Plant's damaged Unit One turbine generator following a fire in September, and estimates that it could be partly back up and running by the second half of 2009. This week, the company said that the cost of repairs to the parts damaged in the fire could reach 332-million dollars, which would be covered by insurance. The damaged turbine generator could possibly be put back on line at reduced power next year...however, if the rotors need to be replaced before that can happen, then the return-to-service estimate is bumped back to 2010. The unit has been out of service since the September 20th fire. Service to customers of the Bridgman plant hasn't been affected.
