The Andrews University Community and International Development Program organized an effort this week to send holiday care packages to deployed Seventh-day Adventists serving in the military. Following a campus-wide call for donations, the packages were assembled and prepared for shipment on Tuesday. The contributions of travel-size games, snacks, pre-paid phone cards, sunscreen, holiday letters and cards will head primarily to Iraq and the Horn of Africa, to be in the hands of troops no later than Christmas. The drive was partly organized by Chris Reyes, who served in the Air Force until July 2008 when he made the decision to attend Andrews University. He says such care packages can mean a lot to soldiers serving overseas, and organizers hope to make such drives an annual event.
