Developers of a proposed theme park in northern Michigan have six months to prove to the state they have money to back the project. A Rochester-based group called Axiom Entertainment is trying to buy state forest land off I-75 near Grayling for its Main Street America development. The purchase price of an estimated 1,400 acres would be about $5 million. State officials say they won't sell the land until they're sure that financing exists for the $160 million project. Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries on Thursday gave Axiom until February to get financing and prove it will hold up. Axiom then would have to get permits for the project to prevent the land from reverting to state ownership.
