City leaders in Saint Joseph are deciding on what sort of height limit should be placed on buildings downtown. This week, they instructed planning staff to draft an ordinance that would reduce the current limit of 80 feet to 55 feet, which would be much closer to what's normal for a city of Saint Joseph's size. Commissioner Mary Goff says that there are a lot of things to consider:
Another thing the city needs to consider is how to make sure that any new ordinance on the issue can also allow for exceptions, should an especially attractive development proposal come along. That, and other questions, will be addressed next month when the commission is presented with the new proposal.
