The federal government has awarded a 75-thousand dollar grant to Berrien County for the removal of an old dam on the Paw Paw River near Watervliet. Community Development Director Dan Fette says that the money comes from the US Department of the Interior, on a recommendation from the Fish and Wildlife Service to restore the ecosystem of the area by getting rid of the long-unneeded dam:
The county Board of Commissioners approved accepting the grant on Thursday. The project will cost a total of around 230-thousand dollars...but most of it will be covered by various grants like the one accepted this week.
