Don Cooney Headed to South Africa

Don Cooney is headed to Africa. The Kalamazoo City Commissioner and Democratic candidate for the Sixth Congressional District will be in Dunbar, South Africa next week to present a paper on ending world poverty to the International Association of Schools of Social Work. As a Western Michigan University professor, Cooney is no stranger to South African issues -- during the Apartheid days, he led efforts to get the university to divest from that country...and he says that he welcomes the opportunity to go there and explore issues that could come up again for him if elected to Congress. Cooney is running against Saint Joseph Republican Congressman Fred Upton in the November election.
