Record gas prices don't just mean less money in the pockets of drivers -- they also mean less money for county road commissions...and many are having to scale back their plans for maintenance and upgrade projects this year. Berrien County Road Commission Engineer-Manager Brian Berndt says that decreased revenue from gasoline taxes can make a big difference:
He says that this year, the Berrien County Road Commission is looking at about 500-thousand dollars less in funding than last year...and that means they're re-evaluating their priorities, cutting back on resurfacing projects in particular. The Commission will be deciding in the coming weeks which paving projects will get the axe, and which will go ahead as planned.
